Our youngest supporter

We'd like to introduce you to Marc Ros. He is only 16 months old and already the youngest supporter of MONA. His parents gave him as a present the adoption of AFrica the chimp, and they tell us he absolutely loves animals. We want to send Marc and his parents, Elena & Albert, a big thank you, from all the chimps and MONA's staff.

Goodbye Sara

It is with great sadness that we bring you the news of Sara’s sudden passing.
A cold that she caught two weeks ago led to unexpected complications. She did not respond well to medical treatment, and on Monday at 5 pm, surrounded by the team that has loved her so much, she passed away.

The Mona Foundation rescued Tom on Monday June 13th. He is a male chimpanzee, about 20 years old. He was bought in the 90s along with another female chimp, by his former owner, -who already had another female chimp who came from the circus.

From the 31st March to the 1st April William C McGrew learnt all about the rehabilitation and resocialization work, taking place at the MONA Foundation's Rescue Centre in Riudellots de la Selva.

One of the main objectives was to conduct a workshop about the research projects that MONA has undertaken over the last few years on the subjects of human evolution and animal wellbeing.

Coming directly from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mona is delighted to offer for a limited period only “Congolinas twende kuchesa” dolls (translated, literally means “come and play”!), a solidary and original gift.
These beautiful dolls represent Congolese women and are completely hand made at the Heri Kwetu centre in Bukavo, RD Congo.
Heri Kwetu works to secure a present and a future for both the physically and mentally handicapped people in the Kivu region, one of the poorest and severely war-torn areas in Africa.

From next Monday 27 December the enrollment period will be open for the various 2011 courses. We will be offering a total of 18 courses structured in 5 areas: Primatology and Ethology, Conservation and Management, Human Evolution, Photography and Drawing, and Natural Sciences. These will consist of: Primate Cognition Seminars I and II, Chimpanzee Protection; Naturalistic Drawing and Improvement in Nature Photography, amongst others. New developments have been the addition of two courses on the Management and Care of Primates course, and a further level on the Origins and Evolution of Human Behavior II course.

We have to inform to you that tomorrow we will operate Romie.
Recently, we saw that she was not 100% and before yesterday we did a complete health check. We saw that she has a mass in the uterus, has also affected kidneys and the blood tests show she is weakened. So tomorrow we are proceeding to operate her.

We will keep you updated and as soon as we know something we will let you know via email.

MONA presents its latest projects at the XIII National and X-Latin American Conference on Ethology
